Marianne Ludlow
Attorney and Counselor at Law
I help clients pass down their assets smoothly and in a tax-advantaged way to create opportunities for future generations. I partner with clients to help them achieve their estate and business planning goals and provide their loved ones with financial security and peace of mind. By combining the latest estate and business planning strategies with experienced counsel, I strive to provide clients with extraordinary legal services and top-notch client care. I secure and protect individuals, families, and businesses through the following:
• Wills and Revocable Trusts
• Irrevocable Trusts
• Asset Protection Planning
• Estate and Income Tax Planning
• Business Formation and Succession Planning
• Planning for Blended Families and Families with Special Considerations
• Trust Administration and Probate
I am committed to not only drafting a personalized estate plan but also helping clients implement it. When I was just out of law school, my grandmother died. While she had a will and trust in place, the attorney had not helped her organize and transfer her assets into the trust. My dad and I spent many late nights locating disorganized assets and navigating probate. Also, even though my grandmother lived frugally, because she didn’t have an ongoing relationship with her attorney, she never addressed tax issues that arose resulting in a large tax at her death.
Proper planning and implementation can help avoid these types of situations and can ease the burden of loved ones during difficult times. Our estate planning team provides clients with help, education, and support with their estate plans so they can achieve their goals and have peace of mind and predictability for their loved ones and business.
Currently I serve as the chair of the Utah Bar Estate Planning Section, the president of the Utah Valley Estate Planning Council, and a member of the National Association of Estate Planning Attorneys and Wealth Counsel. I regularly speak on estate and tax planning, asset protection, business planning, and trust administration to various organizations including the Utah Bar Estate Planning Section, the Utah Valley Estate Planning Council, Wealth Council forum, and at a variety of events for financial professionals and business owners.
I also serve on the board of Ignite Entrepreneurship Academy (a K-8 charter school that promotes entrepreneurial and self-lead learning) and love to ski, hike & travel with my family.

Shawna Doughman
Attorney and Counselor at Law
Estate Planning is fundamentally about taking care of yourself and your loved ones, in both the short and longterm. Every family is unique, and to plan for your future properly, careful consideration needs to be given to each family member’s situation. What is the future you envision for them and how can you best enable it through thoughtful estate planning?
After completing my Master’s degree in Psychology, I began practicing law with a dedicated focus on the family. I bring a unique combination of expertise in counseling to the practice of law, giving me an invaluable perspective on family and the nuances associated with estate planning. You have worked a lifetime to build relationships and accumulate various assets; it is important to the legacy you leave to understand properly both the options available to you, and the implications of your decisions in planning for the people and causes most dear to you.
With proper care and counsel, I guide my clients through every step of the estate planning process.
We will leverage extensive legal insight on critical decisions to help you carefully consider all of the roles required to plan and manage your estate. Who would be the best to fill the required roles, what are the opportunities for asset and business protection, how are taxes best managed to preserve wealth, and what are effective methods for protecting assets from creditors. As we age, our attention naturally turns to the next generation. How do we help create the best possible future for them and their loved ones?
I have experienced innumerable scenarios that can help inform your decisions and guide you through a peaceful transfer of wealth, with insight into ways to prepare yourselves and your families.
In 1789, Benjamin Franklin said “Our new constitution is now established, everything seems to
promise it will be durable; but, in this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes.” While we
can’t help you avoid the one, we can and will help you avoid the other, with durable documents and
planning that will save confusion, heartache, division, questioning, and uncertainty. I look forward to
working with you.
Education
I graduated with honors from Golden Gate University Law School in San Francisco where I was in the top 10 of my class, receiving numerous awards while serving on the Law Review. I am licensed to practice law in Utah and in California. Before law school, I attended Santa Clara University in California where I obtained a masters degree in Counseling. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology from Brigham Young University.
